Used Cessna 152 - A Couple Things To Look Out For When Buying One
If your looking for a used 2 seater aircraft, then you have probably considered buying a Cessna 152. And why not? They have been around for a long time and are very reliable. Not only that - you can pick one up for a great price these days.
However, before you go out and buy your next Cessna 152, your going to want to make sure you think through a few things. It can be easy to get the wrong one & you don't want to do that or you'll be stuck with something that you don't like, don't want to fly and might not be able to get rid of.
Here's A Couple Things To Watch Out For When Buying Your Next Used Cessna 152
First Thing - Be Very Careful Of Buying One That Is "High Timed" Even If It Is Cheap:
You are going to want to make sure you watch out for this... If your buying a Cessna 152, there is a good possiblity your looking to find one for cheap. And you can get them for cheap if you look hard enough. However, you are going to want to make sure you realize that just because it is cheap does not mean it is a good deal.
Because of the fact that these airplanes have been around for so long, some of them can be on the market with very high total time's on the airframe. And that is a problem! The problem is, you can't roll back the total time on the airframe.
So if you go out and buy a Cessna 152 with a massive amount of total time on it & then a few years down the road you want to sell it, you might have a big problem on your hands. First, you will have put a lot of hours on it yourself, so now it will have even more hours on it. And second, your not going to get much money for it if you bought it with an excessive amount of hours and then put even more on it.
So make sure you think this through and find one that is lower timed so you can eventually get a good return on it when you sell it.
Second - Don't Over Pay For External Features
Make sure you don't end up over paying for the Cessna 152 that you are looking at just because it has a nice paint job and some new seat covers or leather interior.
Sure those things are nice, and the owner will want to price those things into the purchase, but you have to make sure you realize that the price should be based on the condition of the aircraft, total time & the engine. That other stuff is not as important (interior & paint).
It can be easy think that new paint and new interior are going to be great - and they will be nice to have... But just make sure you watch out for the amount you are paying for these.
