Used Cessna 140 - Is This Small 2 Seater Classic Right For Your Flying Needs?

Article Writer: Aircraft Buying
Insider & Writer - James David

One of the early Cessna 2 seaters that is still somewhat popular today is the Cessna 140. It's a nice little aircraft that still has quite a following among those who like 2 seater taildraggers. And the great thing about this airplane is that because of the following that it has amongst the pilots, in a lot of cases they are kept in very good shape.

That said, amongst the other two 2 seaters that are popular among Cessna (150, 152) is the right choice a 140 or should you get one of the other ones? This is a debate that some pilots have and they get stuck on figuring out which airplane to buy.

Here's 2 Reasons Why Buying A Cessna 140 Might Be Right For You

Reason #1 - They Are CHEAP

The great thing about this vintage Cessna 2 seater taildragger is the fact that it is cheap to buy. That is if you can find one... They don't come on the market in huge masses like some of the other more popular airplanes that seem to come up for sale.

Part of the reason for this is that that 140 is so popular amongst the pilots who own and fly them that even if a pilot can't fly it anymore for medical reasons, they still seem to keep them around as they are so cheap to keep.

Not only that, some pilots see them as investments. They figure that if they hold them long enough they are going to start really going to go up in value for them. And that can be the case depending on how long you plan on holding on to your 140.

However, because they are so cheap to keep in the air - a lot of pilots would rather save them, look at them everyday even though they can't fly them verses sell the thing.

That is what makes it hard about finding good ones that are for sale. There are not always a huge selection on the used market. That said - just be patient because if you wait, you should be able to get one once it comes on the market.

You just have to make sure you are ready to buy the good ones when they come up! So get your money and everything else in order first and then be in a good position to buy it when the one you like shows up.

Reason #2 - They Are Probably Going To Be In Style For A Long Time

That is the thing I like about the Cessna 140. They are a classic and they will probably be in style amongst pilots for a long time. They are not a fad based airplane that is here today and gone tomorrow. They are loved by the pilots who fly and own them and there should be a market for this great aircraft for a long time to come.

So if you want an airplane that will turn heads when you land at the airport - you probably will do that with the Cessna 140.
