Siai Marchetti SF.260 - Here's 2 Things You Need To Know About This Classic 2 Seater Aircraft...
If your not content with simply owning a basic airplane and you want something with a bit more history and fun, your going to want to take a look at the Siai Marchetti SF.260. This is a classic millitary trainer that was manufactured and designed out of Itally. There were reportably over 800 of the SF.260 made since the mid 160's.
IMPORTANT: Because of the fact that this airplane has been around so long, you have to realize that there were many modifications over the years. Therefore, you need to make sure you find the right one for your needs. There are around 13 different versions of the SF.260, so make sure you realize this when you are looking for one that matches your needs.
First - It's Performance Specs Are Amazing...
The great thing about this airplane is that it is a military trainer, which means it is built a bit different then the average single engine airplane designed to fly around. It is somewhat more areobatic & goes very fast.
This airplane (SF.260) has a 260 hp engine and a maximum cruise speed of about 205 mph... Obviously your cruise speed will be different depending on the altitude you are flying at. But the great thing about this airplane is that not only does it go fast and have a ton of power - it also has a climb rate of about 1,790 feet per minute.
The bottom line is that when you lift off and put your landing gear up, your going to get up to your cruise altitude very fast. And with the massive amount of horsepower this airplane has, you should have a lot of fun flying it and getting to where you want to go in a real hurry.
Second - It's Got Great Cockpit Features...
The best part of this airplane is the cockpit. It is a military designed cockpit and has a control stick verses a yoke that comes out of the dash. It might take some getting used to, but i'm sure you'll get used to having the control stick pretty fast.
The one thing this airplane has is a back seat for a third person. If you get the trainer version, it does not have this - but the other versions do. So you technically are going to be able to fly with 3 people (total) when you are flying.
All in all, if you can get your hands on one of these classics & it is in your price range - your going to want to have a second look at it as it might fit what you are looking for in an airplane!
