Pitts Special - Here's Some Important Things You
Should Know About This Aerobatic Airplane...
Some pilots are happy flying around in small 2 seaters & others want a lot more out of there small single seater or 2 seater airplane. If that is you, then your going to want to make sure you consider having a look at the Pitts Special. This is an incredibly powerful & amazingly designed airplane that should give you years of fun...
IMPORTANT: The Pitts Special first flew in the early 1940's, so you have to realize that there have been many developments since that time. That means there are quite a few variations of the Pitts Special. They have both single seaters and two seater versions of this airplane. So make sure you get the right model for your situation. In this article, will be focusing mainly on the 2 seater Pitts.
Here's 2 Cool Things You Should Know About The Pitts Special...
#1 - They Are Very Afordable...
If you go looking for a new single engine airplane that is a 4 to 6 seater, your going to be paying A LOT of money for it. Not only that, many of the new light sport aircraft models (LSA's) that are coming to market are over $100,000 USD.
The great thing about the Pitts Special is that it is very affordable considering what it can do and the power that it has. I was able to find a current model used 2005 Pitts S-2C for sale that had 501 hours of total time on it for $198,500.00 USD.(1)
If you want an older one you can get one for a lot less then the previous example. I seen a 1981 Pitts S-2A for sale that was fully restored, in great shape and the owner was asking $52,500.00 USD for it! (2)
That is the great thing about this airplane - if you want a newer one, you can get one for a great price & if you want an older one, you can get one for a good price as well. So you have a lot of options. You can get an old one for cheap & as you have the extra cash you can upgrade it and do all the things you want with it.
#2 - They Have A Closed Cockpit...
You might not have noticed this, but most of the biplanes on the market have open cockpits. Part of the reason for this is because so many of them are older and were made many decades ago. But the Pitts has a closed cockpit with a sliding roof on it.
The great thing about the design of the cockpit is you have the ability to see all around you. So when you are flying upside down, your still going to be able to see what is below you! (-:
All in all - if you are looking at getting an airplane like this - you need to checkout the Pitts Special...
