Piper Cherokee 160 - This Original Piper Is Still Worth Looking At Even After All These Years...

Piper Cherokee 160 - Here’s Why The 160 Is A Great Buy...

When it comes to getting a great airplane that you can fly around, you are going to want to make sure you checkout the original Piper Cherokee. A lot of people think that because the 140 is a smaller airplane it was the first one created in this family of aircrafts.

What you need to realize is that the Cherokee 160 was actually the first one created and then a few years later Piper decided to create the 140 as a way of filling in the bottom end of the portfolio.

IMPORTANT: It can be somewhat confusing, but the Cherokee 140 for the most part is a 150 horsepower aircraft. Where as the Cherokee 160 is exactly that - 160 horsepower. But that extra 10 horsepower can really add up. An extra 6% in power can give you that extra push on take off & help you in cruise speed...

I Want To Show You 2 Great Reasons Why The Cherokee
160 Is Still Worth Buying...

Reason #1 Why This Airplane Is A Great Buy ----- Not Everyone Likes Flying A High Wing Airplane:

You need to realize that even though Cessna is somewhat of a bigger brand in the aviation industry, not everyone likes to fly high wing airplanes such as the 172 or 182.

Sure they are great, look nice and can haul a lot of stuff. But you have to realize that the Cherokee 160 is also a great looking airplane that can still haul a lot of stuff, looks nice and is fairly easy to fly.

Your going to probably be able to cruise at about 120 knots once you get going, which is a bit faster the smaller 140. Not only that, it is about 10% faster the basic 172! So make sure you realize that when you are doing your research and are out shopping for an airplane.

The low wing Cherokee 160 has a lot of room and is really nice to fly. The thing about the low wing airplanes is that they have a different feel to them once you are in the cockpit. They are somewhat tighter and you have to step down into them.

A lot of pilots like the low wing Cherokee's over the high wing airplanes. The high wing airplanes are nice because you can look down and have a better view of what is below you, but the low wing models are nice because the cabin has a different feel & they are somewhat easier to land (in my opinion!) (-:

Reason #2 Why This Airplane Is A Great Buy - They Are Still Very Popular!

That means when you go to sell your 160, your probably going to be able to get a good price for it! Even if you want to fly it till you can’t fly any longer, it is nice to know that these airplanes are in demand in terms of the used airplane market.

SIDENOTE: This airplane is somewhat of a "transition" airplane. What I mean by that is - it is a great first time aircraft that you can build hours on and have a lot of fun with. In a lot of ways that is good because the chances are good you are always going to have people looking to start out in an airplane like the 160.

A number of owners will keep their 160 for a really long time & others will move up into a bigger aircraft. So your always likely going to have a fresh group of pilots looking to start out with this airplane. That is great because it is like having a built in feeder system.

The other thing you need to realize is that if an airplane is popular and it’s brand has been around for 50 years, there is a good chance other pilots really like flying it! And that is a VERY GOOD thing as you might want to sell your 160 someday and hopefully make a good buck off it!
