American Legend Cub - Here's A Great Little 2 Seater Worth Looking At...
If you are thinking about single engine airplanes that have stood the test of time, one of the most popular is the Cub. And American Legend Aircraft Company has done a great job in creating their version of the Cub. If your looking for a modernized 2 seater tail dragger, this might just be the Cub for you...
IMPORTANT: Over the years American Legend Aircraft Company has created a number of versions of the Legend Cub, so you have to make sure when you are looking to buy one (either new or used) that you pay close attention and get the right one for what you want.(1)
Here's Two Great Reasons Why The Legend Cub Is Worth Looking At...
Reason #1 - They Can Fly Almost Anywhere...
One of the great things that American Legend has done is made sure that you can take your cub pretty much anywhere you can land. Just by default this aircraft can fly into tight spots in terms of short runways, but in addition to that you have the option for using skis & floats.
They actually have an amphibious version of the Cub so that you can land on water and on the runway. And the great thing about these Cub's is the fact that they are small enough that they are not going to be hard to fly. That means you should not have many problems getting in and out of your favorite lake or fishing hole... Assuming the lake is long enough to take off on! (-:
And the great thing is about the ski & float option is that it is not some "hack" you have to do yourself.(2) They can take care of those options for you. And that is a good thing as you don't have to worry about getting your plane in one place, then flying it to the other side of the country to get your floats, exc.
Reason #2 - They Have Power...
There is nothing worse then flying an airplane that is underpowered. The good thing about the Legend Cub is that it has lots of power and an engine that has been around forever. The J-3 style (Model AL3C-100) has a Continental O-200 that gives it 100 horsepower.(3)
This is not the fastest airplane in the sky, but that is not what it is designed to be! The great thing about this Cub is the fact that it is really light at gross weight. Loaded up, you'll still only come it at 1,320lbs.(4) Which is pretty light considering you have the high wing advantage and a pretty good size engine for the type of airplane you have.
And that is a nice thing to know, especially if you are using skis or floats... All in all - this is a really cool airplane and if your in the market for one you really should check it out.
