Grumman Cheetah - 2 Things You Should Know About The Cheetah AA-5A...

Grumman American came out with some pretty cool airplanes over the years! One of them was the AA-5A Cheetah. It is a great little 4 seater airplane that was produced from 1976 through to 1979.

SIDENOTE: Make sure you pay attention to the different models that Grumman came out with around the same time as the Cheetah was in production. It is a great airplane, but you have to realize that Grumman did come out with a few other models that also might interest you!

Here's 2 Things You Should Know About The
Grumman American Cheetah AA-5A...

#1 - It's Performance Spec's Are Very Good Considering It's Size...

One of the things that worry some pilots is the fact that the Cheetah does not have a big engine. But you have to realize that 150 horsepower is still pretty good as this airplane has a lot of good performance specs. You should see a true air speed of around 120 knots & about a 650 nm range.

That is pretty good considering it is a 4 seater airplane with only 150 horsepower. So from the perspective of being under powered - I don't think this really applies to the Cheetah.

Not only that, with 150 horsepower and a cruise speed of around 120 knots, you are still going to have some fun. Also, your not going to have to endure massive amounts of fuel costs like you would if you were running different model with a bigger engine.

#2 - The Cheetah has Some Great Upgrades...

The one thing that your probably going to really like about the Cheetah is the fact that it has been upgraded somewhat from the Traveler. It can hold 57 US gallons of fuel verses 37, which is going to add a lot to it's range.

As well, the cruise speed has reportedly increased between 5-10 knots over the Traveler as well. So when you add up both those changes & modifications - that makes a pretty big difference in terms of your range & the amount of time it takes you to get to where you need to go.

Not to mention the fact that the Cheetah has a really cool door! The cockpit roof slides back and you climb in from the top verses on the side through a door. That's a pretty cool feature that most planes don't have.
