FK-Lightplanes Fk 9 - This Is A Great Little Cruiser - Here's Why...
If you are looking for a fun, light and somewhat inexpensive 2 seater airplane to fly around, your going to want to make sure you have a look at the FK-9 which is created by FK-Lightplanes. It's a nice looking 2 seater that seems to be very popular...
IMPORTANT: You have to make sure you know the classification of the aircraft you are buying in relation to your country. Also, sometimes those classifications can change. So make sure you figure out which class the plane you are looking at falls into so you can make sure you have the appropriate training and insurance.
Here's 2 Really Good Reasons Why You Might Like The FK-9...
Reason #1 - It Has Some Really Cool Options...
One of the neatest things about the Fk-9 is the fact that you can get it with folding wings.(1) They can fold right back around so you can store this airplane in a trailer, hanger or your storage shed. The reason that this is so cool is because you can store it inside when you are not flying it and not have to waste a bunch of money for excessive hanger space.
Sometimes the summer heat can really do a number on the paint and interior & the winter can also cause you problems too. But with the folding wings option you can get it into a smaller space and save on renting a massive hanger.
The other option you might come to like on the FK-9 is the fact that if you buy a new one you have the option of getting a tri-gear version or a taildragger version.(2) A lot of pilots really like to fly using a taildragger and it is a great selling feature as you can get a new one already configured for that option.
Reason #2 - The Engine...
One of the best things that FK-Lightplanes did with the FK-9 is they put a Rotax 912 UL (80hp) engine in this airplane.(3) You will find this in the FK-9 Professional Model! The great thing about this engine is that it is cheap to run & Rotax has been around for a long time.
With 80hp, your not going to be able to keep up with a twin, but your going to burn a lot less fuel then with other airplanes. Also, by having a smaller engine - when it comes time to overhaul it and or get a new one, your probably not going to have to spend as much money as you would have if you got a plane with a lot bigger engine.
With a world class engine like the ones Rotax build, your also going to be able to find parts - and you never know how frustrating not being able to find parts is until you own an airplane that you can't ever find the parts you need.
