Cessna 182 For Sale - Are There Any Advantages
To Buying This Airplane?
The Cessna 182 is a great airplane that you are really going to want to consider owning if you plan on buying an airplane that is for sale. The bottom line is that the 182 has about a 20 knot cruise speed increase over the 172 and is somewhat bigger as well. You should probably cruise along at about 135 knots verses 115 knots with the Cessna 172.
SIDE NOTE: It seems like the Cessna 182 some times gets caught in the shadow of the 172, but it is still a very popular airplane and there is a lot of them that are being sold and purchased during any given period of time. So if you are in the price range of this great Cessna Classic - don't overlook it!
Reason #1 - The "Classic" Reason
The bottom line is that this airplane is a classic and will most likely hold its value over time. Not only that, you have to realize that the Cessna brand really can help you down the road when you go to sell your 182.
People want to buy Cessna airplanes and most people will pay a bit more for one if they feel that it is going work for them and they like it. What you have to realize is that Cessna has a built in advantage that most other aircraft manufactures don't have...
A LOT of pilots are trained using Cessna 150's, 152's or 172's... So as long as that continues, there were likely be a lot of people coming up who want to keep buying bigger Cessna airplanes. It is almost like a "feeder system"! It is a great advantage to have if you have a good 182...
Reason #2 - The Small Learning Curve (This Is Important)
The great thing about owning this airplane is the fact that you are not going to have retrain yourself when you buy one. You will find that it is going to have similar flight characteristics as the 150, 152 & 172. That is a good thing because if you trained in another Cessna model, you are not going to have a lot of problems adjusting to this new airplane verses if you were to buy a low wing aircraft.
Sure you might have a bit of a learning curve if you get a retractable gear version (182 RG), but other then that - you should be just fine and it should be "business as usual!"
Reason #3 - The Amazing Carrying Capacity
The great thing about the 182 is fact that you can actually carry a lot of weight when you fly somewhere. You are going to have 1000 lbs to work with and that means you have options when you fly somewhere. A lot of the other 4 seaters are not going to be able to haul what the 182 can and that is a really big issue that you can’t fix if you buy the wrong airplane.
A lot of pilots don't think about this issue when they are buying an airplane. The more carrying capacity you have - the more options you are going to have in terms of how far you can go. You can waste a lot of money having to divert your trip, fill up with fuel, take off and get back on the course that you were on.
Not only that, it's a planning nightmare when you have to always be thinking about diverting your trip so you can get fuel cause you can't carry full tanks due to the weight issues that you have. As well, you lose time when you are diverting your trip to get fuel. It takes a lot of time to fly into another airport, get fuel and then climb back up again.
IMPORTANT: The bottom line is that you need to take a serious look at the 182 if you are looking for a high wing airplane that will cruise around 140 knots, your going to want to make sure you seriously consider the Cessna 182...
What If It's Not Fast Enough For You?
If 140 knots is not fast enough for you, then you can always look into the Turbo Skylane RG which should give you a cruise speed of around 170 to 175 knots! That is around a 25% increase, not to mention the fact that your ceiling will now be around 20,000 feet...
There is a lot of options with the 182 series of aircraft & you could even start with a base model and then as you have more cash, graduate up to the Turbo RG! (-:
Either way, your getting a well rounded aircraft. Not only that - the turbo version really has a lot of speed for you to work with. The ability to get over the weather & get over the mountains (if you chose) is very important and can open up all kinds of opportunities for you.
