Best Aircraft To Own - Two IMPORTANT Strategies You Should Know
If your looking to find the best aircraft to own, you are going to want to make sure you follow the right steps so you can hopefully get it right the first time. One of the problems that a lot of people have is they rely on reviews and opinions to much and they don't do enough of the right things themselves to get the right airplane.
And then they end up with an airplane that they don't like and that does not fit their personal situation. And when that happens, you end up having to fly something that you don't like or can't get rid of because you are going to lose to much money on the deal.
2 Airplane Buying Strategies Every Pilot Should Know If You
Want to Find The Best Aircraft Possible
First - Do This Before You Decide On An Aircraft Type (You'll be surprised at the outcome)
The biggest mistake you can make is basing your choice for your next airplane on only reviews by experts. You have to realize that it is good to get the experts opinions on the aircraft you want to buy and own, but you also are going to want to make sure you fly a few.
There are a few ways to do this... You could go to a flight school or flying club and fly a few different models with the flight instructors so you can get a good feel for the flying characteristics. This is a great way to figure out which airplane you like best.
It might cost you a bit of money, but it is a lot cheaper then buying the wrong airplane and having to be stuck with it for the next few years.
The other thing you could do is find a few airplanes in your local area that you think would interest you and pay for the owners fuel to see if they can take you up for an hour so you can get a feel for how the airplane fly's. This way you can get some time in the air with pilots who own the types of airplanes that you want to potentially own as well.
Watch Them Reveal Everything To You
When you pay an owner to take you up in his or her airplane so you can see how it feels, sounds, exc.... You have to realize that they are probably not trying to sell you their airplane. That means they are going to be able to tell you the good, the bad & the ugly about the airplane you are looking at buying.
That way you'll know first hand about the expenses, surprises and things that don't work real well with the airplane type you are looking a buying. Or the pilot/owner might just reaffirm everything you know about the airplane all ready.
Then you can put all of that data together and make an educated choice on the type of aircraft you want to actually own.
Second - Don't Forget About The "2 Year Rule"
Before you buy an airplane your going to want to make sure you ask yourself and think through what you will want out of this airplane 2 years from now.
The reason that it is so important to do this is because you are going to want to make sure you know what this airplane can do in terms of performance. If you plan on doing a lot of cross country flying and you need something that has a great range, then make sure you think about this now.
Because then you can get something with the navigation equipment that you need, the performance that will work for you and something that will give you the results that you want.
It is a lot easier to do this then buy something now and in 2 years have to sell it and buy something else...
The Reason Why Most Pilots Don't Do This
The biggest reason that most pilots don't do this is because of confidence. A lot of pilots who are buying their first airplane are simply thinking about what they want the airplane to do for them right now.
They are not thinking about getting an IFR rating, flying cross country flights, exc. But if you are serious about getting the best plane possible, your going to have to make sure you think through these things so you don't get an airplane that you end up getting bored flying in a few years.
Because once you become bored flying the airplane you own, then you'll fly less and you skills will get rusty. Not only that - your not going to buy a plane for it to sit in the hanger. You want to fly it and enjoy it. So make sure you figure out if the plane your looking at will give you room to grow.
