Aircraft Sales - Do "This" To Get The Best Aircraft Possible

If your in the market for an aircraft you need to understand that it is both a very exciting experience and a complex one as well. Just remember this - It is easier to get the right plane the first try then have to buy a few to eventually find the right one.

A lot of people associate aircraft buying with buying a car or a major purchase like a house. That is understandable, but the bottom line is that it is totally different then that! Also, one of the biggest problems pilots have is that they buy airplanes they think they like and then realize a year down the road they don't really like it.

ONE Simple But Misunderstood Strategy For Buying The Best Aircraft

Don't Buy An Aircraft Simply On The Basis That "You Like It":

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make when they are buying an aircraft. Just because you like it does not mean that it is the right one for you. Often times you can go to aircraft sales websites, classified sites, exc and you will see multiple versions of the aircraft that you like.

The more you keep looking at it, thinking about it and dreaming about it - the more you will want to buy it. The problem is that you can easily make a choice based on emotion and then justify it with logic.

Meaning, you buy it because you like it and then justify to yourself that the reason you bought the aircraft is because of its safety rating, exc. But in actuality you just liked it...

The biggest issue with doing this is because of the fact that what you like might change down the road. Once you get 200 hours on the airplane that you are looking at buying you might realize that your skills are beyond what the airplane can do for you.

Maybe you think your just going to fly around on Sunday afternoons... But the reality is that 200 hours into your airplane you might find that you are now doing cross-country trips and you need something with a better range and IFR capabilities.

And then what will happen is that if you bought the wrong plane in the first place, your going to get bored of it and fly less and less until you get the right aircraft.

It's just as easy to think about this process more logically and ask yourself what you think you will be doing with the aircraft you are buying in 2 years or so. Of course no one knows the future, but if you spend some time thinking about these things now, you might find that there is an even better plane out there on the market that would fit you needs.

Do THIS Instead

Instead of only thinking about what you want right now, start thinking about what you would like to do with your airplane IF you had your IFR and if you could fly more cross-country routes.

It's not going to cost you anything to think bigger and think about the future. Also, think about how you would fly different if you had a bit more money every month to be able to use for your flying passion.

Then think about how you would fly different if you had more confidence in your flying skills. Cause when you are first starting out, you are still learning and trying to figure out how to fly the airplane.

You also will likely have a sense of worry and anxiety as you don't want to do anything dumb and hurt yourself or the airplane. So try and think about how you would do things different if you were a better pilot.

Then after you have taken a few hours of doing the above "thinking", ask yourself if you need a different airplane that can someday give you the capacity to do the things you want to do that you are dreaming about.

Here's The Crazy Thing That Might Happen To You

You might actually find that you can afford the airplane that can do more of what you want to do and you might be able able to get insurance on it as well. You never know until you do the excersice.

You might find that you ultimatly need a bigger airplane but you still need some more hours before you can get insurance on that "dream airplane". And that is okay - now you know what to look forward to and what you can do to prepare.

Take your time and do it right the first time. That way you should hopefully have years of flying fun ahead of you.
