Aircraft For Sale - Here's How To Find The Best One
Buying an aircraft that is for sale is both exciting and frustrating all at the same time. The reality is for most pilots buying an aircraft is the fulfillment of a dream. And at the same time it is frustrating because your trying to find the right one for your situation.
And that is where the challenges start. With so many online classified sites, brokers, dealers & options for your next airplane it can feel like taking a drink of water out of a fire hydrant. But if you can get the right one for the right price - you could have many years of happy flying ahead of you.
2 Simple Ways To Find The Best Aircraft For Your Money
First - Always Make This IMPORTANT THING Your First Priority:
The one thing you can not change or upgrade is the total time of the aircraft. If you buy an aircraft that has 6,000 of total time on it, your stuck with it. You can't get that back down to 2,000 so you can sell it again. And that is one of the biggest problems most pilots have when they are buying an airplane.
They don't put enough focus on the total time of the aircraft. You have to make sure that everything becomes a second level priority other then getting an aircraft with a lower total time. The reason that this is so important is because you want to make sure you have something that is going to give you a lot of years of flying.
The biggest problem with doing this is --- patience! There are a lot of high time aircrafts on the market right now that you can buy for CHEAP! But that is not the game you want to play. Be patient and wait for the best one, pay a bit more for it if you have to and then take great care of it. You'll be glad you did!
Here's The #1 Reasons Why This Is So Important
Not only that, you want to have something that when you are ready to re-sell it, you can have one of the lowest total time aircraft on the market for your category. If you can do this, you should be able to increase the speed at which you sell it and hopefully get a premium price for it if the other comparable aircrafts are higher time.
This might not be very important to you right now, but you never know when your going to want to trade in your current bird for a bigger, faster and more expensive one. As your skills develop, you may find that you want to do different types of flying.
And if you have some good built in equity in the form of an aircraft with really low total time - you set yourself up pretty good to hopefully get a good price when you go to sell the airplane. Doing this could make the difference between you getting an "okay" second airplane or an "amazing" second airplane.
Second - Never, Ever Let This ONE THING Dictate Your Purchase
Most pilots want an airplane that is loaded up with the best avionics.Very few pilots want a 30 year old dash in the airplane they are buying. However - you have to make sure you don't buy an airplane based on the fact that it has the latest technology in the dash.
If you do this, you will likely be paying a premium for the electronics and GPS systems that are in the aircraft you are looking at buying. And the problem with this is, you might be overpaying for the airplane because of it.
Think about it if you were the owner and just sunk tens of thousands of dollars into the airplane! Most sellers are going to try their best to get as much as they can out of the sale as they feel in their mind that it is worth the money they are asking. True or not - they still feel that way in most cases.
So make sure the fundamentals of the aircraft make sense & the price is good. Then if those things make sense, factor in the avionics. But never base your buying choice simply on the fact that it has a nice dash. Focus on the fundamentals first.
Here's A Good Trick For Getting Avionics For CHEAP
Also, make sure you look around the used avionics market as well. You might find that you can get a great aircraft that is not upgraded yet & then put in some newer/used avionics and save a ton of money in the process.
There are places you can go to get good used avionics. And the cool thing is - you don't have to physically go there like you would at the local auto wrecker. You can simply call and they will find you the avionics or parts that you are looking for.
Just make sure you don't attempt to install them! (-: If you have a good aircraft mechanic or there is an avionics shop around - let them do the dirty work. It's a lot safer that way too!
