Aeronca Sedan

Aeronca Sedan – Here's Some Tips On Buying One --- THE RIGHT WAY

One of the great about the Aeronca line of aircraft is the fact that they came out with a lot of great models. One of those models was the Aeronca Sedan which was manufactured from 1948 to 1951. There were 561 sedans created over the short time that Aeronca manufactured these great airplanes.(1)

Yet, they are still somewhat popular today among pilots & for good reason! These are nice looking and very useful airplanes & if your looking for a taildragger, this might just be the right one for you...

IMPORTANT: You have to realize that because of the age of this airplane, many pilots and owners will have made some modifications to them over the years. So make sure you keep this in mind when you are looking at a used on for sale. Also, there were 3 versions created as well, so make sure you get the right version for your situation.

Here's 2 IMPORTANT REASONS Why The Aeronca Sedan Is Still A Great Airplane To Fly & Potentially Own...

Reason #1 – It's Not Going To Break The Bank To Keep In The Air...

**(Watch Out For This ONE BIG EXPENSE)**

One of the best features about this airplane is the fact that it is not going to be very expensive to keep in the air in terms of operating costs. The reason I say that is because it is a very simple airplane. You don't have to worry about a digital dash, all kinds of electronic systems & expensive options.

With a lot of the new airplanes, you are going to have to eventually replace all the digital equipment and update the massive amounts of optional stuff that is in them. But with the Sedan, you don't have to worry about a lot of that.

Unless you are buying one that the owner has “decked out”, your not going to have to deal with a lot of these issues. Not only that, with a standard 145hp engine – it's not exactly going to burn a lot of fuel compared to a lot of the bigger airplanes.

So if you are okay with flying something that is more simple, your going to really love this airplane! Sure it is not the fasted bird in the sky, but at least it is not going to cost a fortune to keep up there!

BIG EXPENSE To Watch For:

As I have been saying, this is a great airplane that is cheap to keep in the air. However, make sure you don't buy one that is close to the overhaul date. The problem is that just because the pilot handbook says the engine should hit a certain amount of hours before it's overhaul does not mean that it will.

And you DON'T want to have to do an overhaul right after buying your next airplane. So, just be patient and buy one that has lots of time left on the engine before an overhaul is needed.

Reason #2 – This Is Great Bush Airplane...

(Don't overlook this ONE GREAT FEATURE)

The reason that this is a great airplane if you plan on flying in the bush or remote areas is because you can put it on skis & there is also a certified float version of the Sedan as well.

Not only that, because it is small and very easy to move around – your not going to need 5,000 feet of runway to get this airplane off the ground.

As well, one of the benefits of this airplane is the fact that it has a very good useable load. You should be able to carry 880 lbs of weight around including fuel.(2)

Considering that this is a 4 seater airplane, I would say that being able to haul around 880 lbs is pretty good! That said, you probably are not going to be at full capacity all the time when your flying. So you should be able to carry a good amount of fuel when your flying by yourself or with another person.

The #1 Feature That Makes This Aircraft Worth Buying
:

The one really good thing about this airplane is the fact that your going to be able to grow into it! You might not want floats, skis or the ability to fly into the bush right now... But you don't know what the future might bring.

And that is the great thing about this airplane... Down the road you might want to add in those features to your flying and make it more adventurous. And you can without hopefully having to buy a new airplane.

So if you are looking for a classic airplane that you can have some fun with, make sure you give the Sedan a second look.
